Sure social media, photos and emails are great and all, but digital content can get so lost in the tsunami of constant information produced and pumped out by companies and organisations who are trying to stand out from the joyful noises of the festive season.
Knowing this, the team at ClassForKids put their imaginative brains and creative thoughts together to come up with a memorable and interesting Christmas and New Years marketing campaign that would blow your minds away! We thought, instead of something you send through you phone, why not send something in a more traditional manner. Snail mail! It’ll be exactly like receiving a present from Santa himself! Who doesn’t love receiving a cheeky package right? 📦
So in this blog post, I’m here to share the process of conceptualising a fun idea to prototyping it and then to making it a physical gift to send to you. Here we go!
The Christmas concept
Hayley, our official ClassForKids Franchise Specialist and resident Christmas unicorn came up with a brilliant idea one fine day of sending physical boxed gifts to kids activities clubs in the hopes of raising awareness about ClassForKids and how we’re a brilliant booking management system. We want the world to know of how good we are after all, might as well show them in real life!
But how do we go about doing this? Well first, we had to figure out what this box is and how it’ll appear in front of someone. So Hayley came up with a sketch which showed the rough idea of what the box might look like (or at least, what it looked like in her mind 😂), and from there was the beginning of extracting her idea and making it into a tangible reality! 📝
Test, test, is this exploding box working?
We discussed it further with the the rest of the marketing team to see how we could make it work as a cool physical gift. What did we do next after the sketch then? We prototyped of course!
That’s where I step in! I had to figure out how everything would visually look, and how it will present itself when the box is received by the clubs. Hayley and I agreed that am exploding box, a box that open up immediately after lifting the lid, was the way to go.
We came up with multiple versions and after figuring out the type of box, the perfect size for it, the messaging, composition, visualisation and extra details to include into the prototype, we drew closer to completing this amazing gift!
But … something was missing 🤔🤔🤔 … something more … personal … custom … the wow factor for the clubs that were receiving this awesome package …
The cherry on top of a perfect gift
Putting our head together again, we tried to think of something that would be striking enough to leave a memorable impression on the receiver. This was when collaboration came into play! Alannah, our Lead Gen Executive and (other) resident marketing unicorn, stepped in and came up with another great addition to the gift. How about a personalised Christmas trinket for the festive season? A bauble? Ribbon? No … we chose SNOW GLOBES! How cute!
We chose snow globes because we could we hand make and design the globes ourselves, a perfect example of a personalised gift that we hoped would make an impact that was both unforgettable and joyful!
We also wanted to build a special relationship with club owners and coaches the moment they opened the box! And let’s be honest, the snow globes looked pretty incredible in addition to the graphics that came along with the box so we were confident this would bridge a positive connection. 👍🏼
Assembling the boxes with Santa’s little helpers
So with all the decisions made, materials sourced and designs sorted, it was time for us to manufacture these gifts! 🎁
We however thought it was a much better idea to do it ourselves by hand, giving it a more authentic and unique DIY vibe. We also wanted to put in some good ol’ fashion love and a wee bit of elbow grease into the production of these incredible packages in the hopes that the receivers will appreciate the effort we put into their gifts!
So for a few days before festivities began, we had a whole production line in the ClassForKids marketing corner … cutting, pasting, assembling the boxes and tying them up with colourful ClassForKids ribbons, ready to be sent out for Christmas! 🎄
The final gift! 🎁
So after weeks of planning, prototyping and assembling, the final gifts for our Christmas marketing campaign were ready to be sent out to club owners and coaches around the UK! Santa picked up the exploding boxes with special gifts inside and sent them away on his sleigh, and from what we’ve heard so far, the boxes are a hit and have received some great responses from all of you! Yipee!
It just goes to show that going an extra mile to create something different, unique and new can make an everlasting impression! We had so much fun with this campaign and plan on doing more creative campaigns like this in 2019!
